The government of the United Kingdom has given BAE Systems 4 billion pounds to build submarines.
(Reuters) - Manchester, England In the framework of the AUKUS program with Australia and the United States, the United Kingdom has awarded BAE Systems (LON:BAES) a four billion pound (4,9 billion dollar) contract to build attack submarines, the company and UK defense minister Grant Shapps announced on Sunday.
The specifics of the AUKUS plan, which aims to give Australia nuclear-powered attack submarines starting in the early 2030s, were revealed by the United States, Australia, and Great Britain in March. The strategy's goal is to counter China's ambitions in the Indo-Pacific region.
After leaving the European Union, the United Kingdom, which will also use its sub-marines for commercial purposes, will focus its foreign and defense policy on Indo-Pacific countries while also looking for trade agreements with fast-growing economies.
